Ricciardo: I got an outstanding bill with Monaco

Daniel Ricciardo lives in Monaco from 2013 and he feels this race of Monte-Carlo it is a second home. When last year, he was left with a rip-off from a mistake done by the Red Bull team at his box, the lost victory is a defeat that still rankles. In fact, if he could beat someone of his technicians, he was close to do it. Today, he just jokes about it but to obtain his first pole-position of his career (even more at Monaco) while being forced to leave the victory to Hamilton, it is still a big scar. Unfortunately, our “Smiling Killer” will be forced to take with himself forever.

Time is always a good way to cure any disappointment and Daniel, during the press conference, showed his constant optimism:

“It is true, I have an outstanding bill here but I feel a good vibration. My confidence level, it is pretty high. We got some new components to be used in this race.

I think we experienced a little improvement at Barcelona but not so much like we wanted. we hope those new things will allow to recover another couple of decimals”

This season Red Bull’s cars are quite behind if compared with Ferrari and Mercedes. Daniel, as well as Verstappen, started to suggest there is a problem in the back side of this car. A lack of grip in the back, it is a point shall be improved sooner than later. At the same time, Daniel is a bit concerned about the way new cars will behave at Monte-Carlo. An increase in size of those cars, it will create a problem on a track where the lack of space is a constant problem:

“It is difficult to forecast if we will be able to catch Ferrari or Mercedes. I am sure we can do a nice race, if we get the answer right during qualifying. I think this is going to be a positive week-end.

It is still difficult to guess what lap-time we will achieve. On some tracks, we are capable to be 4 or 5 seconds faster… Others, we get just 1 or 2 seconds. If we go below 1 second, I believe Red Bull is going to be fast and I think we will do it.

This track is indeed very narrow and an increase of 20 cm on the side of our cars, it is quite a lot. On a city circuit like this, it is not an advantage.

If I could, I would ask a specific tire just to use it at Monte-carlo. A kind of super, super, super, super-soft tire that it would force the teams to do more than one pit-stop. Even so, keeping in mind last years, it is better to do not exceed with the number of pit-stops”

What we can say to our Champion, it is: Come on Daniel, forget the past and do not give-up!
