China GP, Ricciardo the glass half full of Renault

The team still suffers with the reliability of the power unit,which forced Hulkenberg to the withdrawal

The One-pit strategy was managed by Ricciardo perfectly, this gave to our Australian driver the first seasonal points. 

The first points with Renault by Daniel Ricciardo are a lean consolation for the team directed by Cyril Abiteboul, still struggling with technical problems connected to the power-unit.  You know, something not really new but something we see from a long time.

Hulkenberg parked in the box prematurely, due to a failure of his MGU-K, while replaced and the second unit of this season – as well as on the machine of Ricciardo and McLaren of Norris – on Friday of the GP of China. 

The strategy to a single pit-stop, starting from the softer compound, is managed well by Ricciardo, which covers 18 lap sin the first stint. Better they do just Gasly and the amazing Albon, from pitlane.

Tells Daniel :

It is a good feeling, even for the boys in the box. We hadn’t seen the chequered flag yet.

They could fly home with a smile on their faces

The key of this good result – entirely relative, given the pace of Racing Point and Alfa Romeo, just a few seconds behind – is in a smooth yarn week-end: 

The set-up was there and we did not have to change too much over the week-end. I felt I could work and improve my self instead of learning the machine by making changes here and there.

Some of the things we learned in Bahrain tests… 

It was not easy, Perez was really fast and pushed me for the whole race. I tried to handle the gap but when it was coming I had to push.

Towards the end it was becoming a somewhat insidious situation but he too was suffering, so it was not a too tense ending. I feel I managed the race well!

A tire management competition, more than expression of the best speed on the track. And Abiteboul indicated in the single pit-stop the only viable option to point to the seventh place finish, from the forecasts of the strategists. 

The Glass can only be half full. First, among the second band teams, but still with serious problems of reliability from the power-unit. 

Daniel says on Hulkenberg :

I suspected it because I no longer saw his name on the table and at one point I stopped to check in the mirrors.

I Felt it was too early for his pit stop and I sensed the withdrawal but I preferred not to know and focus on my race
