With Ricciardo and Hulkenberg in the fourth row, Renault hopes to be able to do something more than last race.
For A team that is not part of the top 3 of F1, conquering the fourth row with the machines spaced between them of only 4 thousandths of seconds, it is almost a dream.
Perhaps It is a little less for Renault, given the ambitions “as a car builder” and the fact that you want more and more. But the one in Shanghai’s qualifications remains a good result and that is well hoped for in the race optics:
Both machines went well in the long run and from our side we will continue to work also to understand the best strategies for tomorrowAlan Permane | Team Director
This is the opinion of our Daniel Ricciardo, 7th in grid :
I am really happy for the team with the result of today: having both cars in Q3, is a solid result.
This battle is very tight and our weekend can change for 1 or 2 tenths of a second, so it is nice to be ahead. My ride in Q3 was a bit messy in the final area, so I was glad to know I finished seventh.
Tomorrow, I would realistically end up in the top seven, and we will see if it will be possible to attack the sixth placeDaniel Ricciardo | Renault F1 Pilot
Also Nico Hulkenberg is satisfied for the team result and he adds:
The car behaved well and was fast throughout the weekend, so today we had a good qualification. I managed to get into Q2 in one run, which is nice.
I was happy with all my laps, I knew we had be neighbors and it actually went that way. The important thing is the result of the team and that we can make a strong race from there. Our step on the distance yesterday was competitive, the package is fine and we will push for a double arrival at pointsNiko Hulkenberg | Renault F1 pilot
Something that would have been possible in Bahrain, if it were not for that incredible double final withdrawal: But the substitution of various elements and especially of the MGU-K on both machines should avert a repetition of the unfortunate epilogue .
